Basketball: Lady Bronchos win opener in OT

ANDREWS Odessa High got a three-pointer from Sammi Salazar to force overtime and then Alisha Willis and Dorian McKnight combined for seven points in the extra time to lead the Lady Bronchos to a 49-43 victory over Andrews Tuesday night.

McKnight led Odessa High (1-0) with a game-high 18 points, with Willis adding 13 in the victory.

The Lady Mustangs (0-1) were led by Melanie Gonzalez’s 18 points, with Brittaney Abney finishing with 14 in the loss.

After Salazar’s jumper tied the game at 42-42 with 10 seconds remaining to play, the Lady Bronchos used defense to take over, with McKnight stealing two long passes and then moving the ball up the court for transition baskets to Willis.

Odessa High’s next game is Nov. 13 at Greenwood High School. The Lady Bronchos’ home opener is set for Dec. 4 against Midland Classical.

The Lady Panthers were led by Shelby Chancellor with eight points, while Dusty Westlund and Sam Baker each had five points. Melanie Watson added 11 points for MCA.

The Lady Panthers play their home opener at 6 p.m. Friday when Ackerly Sands visits the Permian Fieldhouse.
