Football: Kermit ends playoff victory drought
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SWEETWATER Austin Grubbs’ 1-yard run with 4:05 remaining to play proved to be the game winner as the Yellowjackets defeated the Bulldogs 23-20 in a Class 2A Division I bi-district playoff game at the Mustang Bowl.
It was the first playoff victory for Kermit (10-1) since 1993 and snapped a five-game playoff losing streak dating back to that same season.
Kermit advanced to face Early (8-3) in a regional playoff game at 7:30 p.m. Friday back in Sweetwater.
Trevor Leeson and Jorge Vasquez also scored for the Yellowjackets.
Prennis Williams led the Bulldogs (5-6) with a 17-yard touchdown reception from Ruben Resendez and an 83-yard run to cap the scoring with 1:14 left in the game.
Brady then tried an onside kick, but Kermit recovered and was able to run out the clock.
