Volleyball: Nov. 3 bi-district playoff roundup

>> ANDREWS RALLIES PAST TORNILLO: In Pecos, led by Callie Ives’ 46 digs, Andrews advanced to the Class 3A area playoff round with a bi-district win over Tornillo on Tuesday night at Pecos High, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15.

Ives also had 20 kills for the Lady Mustangs (20-14), who advanced to face Abilene Wylie in the Class 3A area round.

McKenzie Long collected a team-high 30 kills in addition to 20 digs.

Rayna Diaz had 22 digs, while Mayra Baeza had 19 digs and Chrissy McCluskey had 18 digs.

Tornillo finished its season 19-14. 

>> CRANE CAPTURES 2A PLAYOFF WIN: In Seminole, Crane High School’s volleyball team dug out of a second-set hole Tuesday while knocking off Littlefield 25-17, 34-32, 25-12 in a Class 2A bi-district playoff match at Seminole High School.

The Lady Birds (14-25) trailed 24-19 in the second set before rallying to win it and then close out Littlefield for the second consecutive season.

Tara King’s 25 digs helped lead the way while Lexus Joseph had a team-high eight kills for Crane, which advanced to face Bushland in the area round for the fourth consecutive season. 

>> LADY DAWGS OUT: In Loving, N.M., Midland High had its season ended at the hands of El Paso Coronado on Tuesday night 25-11, 25-22, 25-13, in a Class 5A bi-district playoff match.

Caroline Baker’s team-high eight kills weren’t enough for the Lady Dawgs (27-14), who were the No. 4 playoff seed out of District 2-5A.

Midland High’s Leigh Collier led the team with 13 assists, while Teal Mahan had 13 digs.

El Paso Coronado (33-9) advanced to the area round. 

>> MIDLAND LEE ELIMINATED: In Loving, N.M., The Midland Lee Lady Rebels saw a solid season come to an end Tuesday with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 loss to El Paso Franklin in Class 5A bi-district playoff match.

Catherine Warren and Alyssa Smith had seven kills each from the Lady Rebels (28-14), who were the No. 3 playoff seed out of District 2-5A.

Haley Nichols dished out 23 assists and Jamey Lane had a team-high 13 digs.

El Paso Franklin (32-6) advanced to the Class 5A area round. 

>> KERMIT FALLS: In Seminole, the Kermit Lady Jackets were on the wrong end of two close sets in their District 2A bi-district playoff match against Shallowater, eventually losing, 25-22, 27-25, 25-15 at Seminole High.

Kermit (16-20) was led by Ravyn Marshall, who tallied a team-high 17 assists and 13 digs.

Kadye Bedell added seven kills as the Lady Jackets saw their season come to an end.

“We had some minor mistakes that hurt us,” Kermit head coach Ruben Leyva said. “We eliminate those mistakes, it would be a different turnout.”
