Volleyball: Andrews outlasts Lamesa
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SEMINOLE It’s no secret that the Andrews High School volleyball team likes five-game matches.
That point was proven once again Tuesday night as the Lady Mustangs defeated Lamesa, 25-21, 15-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11, in a Class 3A Regional Quarterfinal at Seminole High.
Andrews (25-11) will play defending state finalist Canyon in a Region I semifinal on Friday at 9:15 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock.
Katie White led the Lady Mustangs with nine kills and two blocks. Jeleah Ratliff followed with seven kills and three blocks for Andrews.
Criswell contributed with five kills and one block, with Loriann Frazier also finishing with five kills.
“We’re excited about playing Canyon,” a smiling Andrews head coach Hollie Smith said.
“It’s someone we’ve never seen before so the girls can concentrate on their own game and not worry about what the other team can do.”
Andrews won the first game, but then lost two straight to the Golden Tornados to force the comeback.
“I wasn’t really nervous,” Smith said. “I knew the girls could get it done.”
Chelsi Thomas led Lamesa with a match-high 11 kills.
