Comments 0 | Recommend 0

ALPINE The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks overcame a sub-par passing game from Dominic Scott on Friday night and rallied to defeat Kermit 31-24 at Jackson Field.

Scott, who has five 300-plus yard games on the season, completed 16-of-37 passes for 153 yards Friday. But his key numbers were no interceptions three touchdown passes including a 9-yard throw to Carlos Mendoza with 5:20 to play to put the Bucks (9-0, 4-0 in District 4-2A) up for the first time on the night.

Gabriel Chavez was able to help keep Kermit (5-4, 1-3) ahead most of the night with 160 rushing and 60 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Tony Alvarez kept Alpine in the game by answering a Chavez touchdown with an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown as time expired in the first half. It cut the Kermit lead to 16-14.

The victory for Alpine sets up a showdown for the district championship Friday at Crane’s El Ave Stadium.
