ABILENE Running back Keithy Flye rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns to lead the No. 9 Eagles past the Cougars in a District 3-5A game at Shotwell Stadium.

Flye scored on runs of 7 and 6 yards as Abilene High (8-1 overall, 3-1 in district) clinched a playoff berth with the victory. Quarterbacks Spens Lackey and Steven Warren combined to complete 14 of 20 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown.

Abilene Cooper (5-4, 1-3) was led by quarterback Will Casey, who finished 28 of 42 for 262 yards and one touchdown.

The Cougars must defeat Midland Lee next week to reach the playoffs. Midland Lee kept Abilene Cooper from the playoffs in 2006 with an overtime victory.
