Golf: Monahans girls strong in Andrews; Permian improves on final day in San Angelo

ANDREWS Led by top 10 individual performances by Shelbye Hill and Jordan Jernigan, the Monahans girls golf team took second at the Andrews Girls Classic at the Andrews County Golf Course.

The Lady Loboes (656) finished behind first-place El Paso Eastwood (628).

Hill's 148 was the second-best individual mark, just behind Eastwood's Alexia Heist (147). Jernigan (161) tied for ninth.

Meanwhile, Andrews Black (672) finished in fourth, Odessa High (719) in sixth, Seminole (736) in seventh and Andrews Gold (752) in eighth. Pecos (773) tied for 10th.

The Lady Bronchos' Karley Kiphart (156) came in sixth individually, while Seminole's Samantha Soto (159) finished tied for seventh.

SAN ANGELO After sitting in 13th place following the first day of the Orange Division at the San Angelo Boys Classic, the Permian boys golf team finished in ninth Saturday at 642, four strokes behind Midland Lee and Amarillo High, both tied for seventh.

Odessa High finished in 15th at 663, one stroke behind San Angelo Central Orange.

Blaine Nevans had the top individual score for the Panthers at 156. Odessa High was led by Justin Holcomb, who turned in a 159.

Meanwhile, Andrews' Brett Holly finished in first place among individuals in the Blue Division with a 144, tallying a 71 on Saturday.

The Mustangs came in fourth in the Blue Division at 636, five strokes behind Wolfforth Frenship.
