FOOTBALL: Several area players earn six-man all-state honors
Fifteen players from the Permian Basin were named to the all-state football teams selected by the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association.
Rankin had three players on the Division I first team — defensive lineman Ryan Thomas, safety Dalton Michum and kicker Taylor Thompson — while spreadback Steve Enriquez and receiver Francisco Perez were first-team picks for Fort Davis. The Red Devils’ Cory Norwood and Ty Self made the second team, and teammates Aaron Castillo and Caleb Wrinkle garnered honorable mention honors.
Grandfalls-Royalty had four players recognized in Division II. Austin Davis and Junior Marquez were second-team selections at receiver and utility back, respectively, while spreadback Thomas Burns and special teams player Gilbert Nunez was named honorable mention.
Balmorhea linebacker Justin Ramos and cornerback Chance Virdell received honorable mention honors.
