SOCCER: Permian, Midland Lee play in boys showdown
Permian High School’s boys soccer team faces Midland Lee at noon today at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland in a battle for first place in the District 3-5A standings.
The Panthers (8-5-1 overall, 3-0-0-0 district, 9 points) lead the district but the Rebels (3-5-2, 2-0-0-0, 6 points) have one game in hand.
Both teams are coming off rivalry victories, with Midland Lee getting goals from four different players in a 4-1 win over Midland High while Christian Korner scored late as Permian beat Odessa High 1-0.
The losers of those rivalry games — Odessa High (6-4-4, 1-0-0-2, 3 points) and Midland High (6-6-2, 1-0-0-2, 3 points) — play at noon today at Ratliff Stadium.
In the girls games, Odessa High (10-5, 2-0-1-0, 7 points) plays host to Midland High (9-5-1, 2-1-0-0, 8 points) at 2 p.m. at Ratliff Stadium. If either team wins in regulation, it will lead the 3-5A standings.
Also on the girls side of the ledger, Permian (6-6-1, 1-0-0-2, 3 points) plays at Midland Lee (7-5, 0-0-0-2, 0 points) at 2 p.m. at Grande Communications Stadium in a game that could go a long way to either team making a push for a playoff spot.
