Cross country: Pecos, Fort Stockton girls qualify runners for regionals

EL PASO Pecos High School’s Katrina Maldonado and Kristal Carrasco finished fifth and sixth individually Saturday in the girls division of the District 4-3A Cross Country Championships and qualified for the regional meet.

Also in the girls division at Chamizal National Memorial, Fort Stockton qualified as a team by finishing third. Fort Stockton was led by a 10th-place individual finish from Sayra Fierro while Paloma Barraza and Izamar Ocon were 13th and 14th.

In the boys race, no Permian Basin runners qualified for regional competition.

Clint swept the team titles, including a perfect score of 15 points by the girls team. Clint’s boys scored 31 points and edged out Tornillo (39) for that team title.
