FINAL -- PERMIAN 2, EL PASO FRANKLIN 0

FINAL -- Permian 2, El Paso Franklin 0 -- Permian advances to the area round against either Abilene High or Arlington Lamar.

Permian 2, El Paso Franklin -- With a little more than 11 minutes in a Class 5A bi-district playoff game at Ratliff Stadium, Permian's Shalee Thomas slammed a shot high at the goal, but El Paso Franklin's goalkeeper reached high to tip the ball over the top post and out. Permian remains in control, though, as the game winds down.

Permian 2, El Paso Franklin 0 -- Midway through the second half, El Paso Franklin has started to find its attack, but Lady Panthers goalkeeper Jenna Easley has saved two solid chances for Permian. El Paso Franklin also picked up a corner kick, but Haley Fowler headed the ball away from the goal to keep Permian's lead intact.

Halftime -- Permian 2, El Paso Franklin 0 -- El Paso Franklin came up with their best scoring chance of the entire half in the 40th minute, but with the ball in a scramble near Permian's goal, the Lady Panthers were able to clear the ball and avoid the threat.

Permian 2, El Paso Franklin 0 -- Permian has made the most of two corner kicks so far. Three minutes after Westlund's goal, Permian got a chance at another corner kick, and this time Paige Strahan headed in a corner kick to give the Lady Panthers a commanding lead in the 15th minute.

Permian 1, El Paso Franklin 0 -- The Lady Panthers have been the aggressor by far at the beginning of this game, and the aggressiveness pays off. After El Paso Franklin knocks a corner kick attempt back out, Dusty Westlund stopped the carom on the right side of the net and slipped the ball past Franklin's goalie to give Permian the early lead in the 12th minute. El Paso Franklin hasn't been able to get a shot.

PREGAME

Parked here in the press box at Ratliff Stadium for a Class 5A bi-district matchup between Permian and El Paso Franklin in relief of OA sports editor and soccer guru Chris Gove, who is in El Paso getting ready to watch the Permian boys at 6:30 CDT. Pretty solid day for soccer out here, clear and warm with much less wind than the winds that were whipping around here yesterday. But here we go, set to get ready in the next five minutes.

Time to see if the Lady Panthers can move on.
