PLAINVIEW Breath a sigh of relief, Odessa High fans.

A.D. Hinojos pitched into the seventh before getting into trouble, but Derek Loera saved him and the Bronchos in a 3-1 victory Friday over Amarillo Tascosa in a thrilling opener to their best-of-three Class 5A regional quarterfinal series at Wayland Baptist University.

Leading 3-0 in the seventh, Hinojos gave up a single, a walk, hit a batter and then went to a 3-0 count on the Amarillo Tascosa No. 3 batter.

OHS head coach Mike Munguia then went to the bullpen to get his ace, Loera.

Loera finished off the walk to make it 3-1 and then went to a 3-2 count on Tascosa cleanup hitter Paul Pulley before striking him out to finish the game.

The two teams meet again at 1 p.m. today in Game 2. Game 3, if necessary, will be 30 minutes after Game 2.
