Football: Pecos 23, Kermit 14

KERMIT Ariel Salgado scored with 1:35 remaining in the first half on an 87-yard kickoff return to push the Eagles to a halftime lead and then scored on a 57-yard pass with 10:37 to play in the game Friday to help the Eagles past the Yellow Jackets at Walton Field.

Salgado finished with just the one reception, but also made an impact on defense with an interception in the contest.

Pecos (1-1) was led by running back Ramiro Pinales’ 117-yard effort on 30 carries, including a 7-yard touchdown run with 4:57 left in the first half.

Kermit quarterback Albert Carrasco, after a perfect opening night, struggled against the Eagles, finishing just 9 of 20 for 164 yards and two interceptions. Jacob Hernandez was the team’s leading receiver with 95 yards on four receptions.
