Volleyball: Andrews outlasts Lamesa, then wins flip for No. 2 seed in playoffs
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SEMINOLE Andrews High School’s volleyball team qualified for the Class 3A playoffs Friday by outlasting Lamesa 21-25, 25-22, 25-15, 16-25, 15-6 in a District 3-3A playoff.
Andrews, Lamesa and Seminole all tied for second place in the 3-3A standings with 6-4 records. Seminole won a coin flip, which put Andrews and Lamesa in the elimination match Friday in Seminole’s gym.
Behind 22 kills and 28 digs by Callie Ives, 28 assists and 23 digs by Mackenzie Long and a five-ace, 14-kill effort by Heather Rawls, the Lady Mustangs (19-19 overall) qualified by beating Lamesa.
After winning the elimination match, Andrews then won a coin flip with Seminole for the No. 2 seed out of District 3-3A.
Andrews advanced to play Tornillo, the third seed out of District 4-3A, in a bi-district round Tuesday either in Alpine or Pecos.
Seminole (22-17) will face Pecos (19-12) in the bi-district round at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Midland Christian.
After Lamesa had forced a fifth set and was tied 1-1 in the fifth, Rawls ran off 12 consecutive points on serve to deliver Andrews’ victory.
