SNYDER Monahans High School’s volleyball team opened its 2009 playoff campaign Saturday by sweeping Brownwood 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 in a Class 3A area-round match.
The Lady Loboes (37-5) got 11 kills and four blocks from Kristi Holly while advancing to face Dalhart at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in a regional quarterfinal at Lubbock Estacado High School.
Against Brownwood, Shelbi Cornelius and Amy Rose added six kills each while Erin Fisher had 27 assists and five kills.
Defensively, Michelle Azuaje and Shelbi Najar had 10 digs each and Rose had eight.

SEMINOLE Bouncing back from a rough opening set, the Alpine volleyball team came roaring back to eliminate Amarillo Highland Park 22-25, 25-15, 25-8, 25-11 in a Class 2A area playoff Saturday.
Megan Oliphant paced the Lady Bucks (32-7) with team highs of 18 kills and 6 blocks, and Oliphant added 19 assists, 13 digs and an ace in the all-around performance.
Lauren Hardin paced Alpine with 23 assists, and Alyssa Fields made the trip after a Class 2A Region I Cross Country Championships performance to add 17 service points, four digs and two blocks.
Alpine advances to play Shallowater (21-17) in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Permian Fieldhouse.

WOLFFORTH The Lady Birds volleyball team ran into a Bushland buzzsaw that dominated Crane 25-6, 25-12, 25-15 in a Class 2A area playoff.
Amber Eaton led Crane (14-26) with four kills, but the Lady Birds never mustered much of an attack against Bushland (28-11).
Crane only collected seven kills in the entire match.
Tara King led the Lady Birds with 18 digs, Eaton had 12, Sammi Sparkman added 10 and Lexus Joseph picked up a team-high three blocks in the loss.
